We recently made a quick, and I mean very quick, trip down to Crescent City, CA to surprise my father-in-law for his retirement. After throwing the kids and dogs in the car at O'dark thirty (5:30 AM) we managed to get down there by lunch and sent the kids into his work. The look on his face was priceless, making the whole trip worthwhile. Grandma Cassie not only planned the whole surprise but managed to pack in dinner, breakfast, and a wonderful trip to the redwoods before we had to head home.
The kids loved the sea lions that had parked themselves on the sidewalk at dinner. Though my guess is that the restaurant and fishermen don't appreciate them hanging around. We were warned not to get too close because they do bite, but who in their right mind would get that close?
